Gaster Industries AU

Everything You Need to Know about this Alternate Universe!
(THIS IS NOT EDITED! IT IS ALSO PROBABLY INCOMPLETE!)

Key:

Gaster Industries (GI for short)

Under the Spotlight (UtS)

Soul Mate (SM)

Alternate Universe (AU)

----

Basis: This AU is a version of the post-pacifist route of Undertale. However, because of what eventually happens, it is an alternate universe since a lot of fan works have monsters struggling to make ends meet on the surface. In the Gaster Industries Timeline, Sans becomes a successful business entrepreneur. That is the main different between this timeline and others.

Major Characters: Sans, Mettaton, Alphys, Nate (OC), Kara (OC), Naomi (OC), Ben (OC), and the Reader (you and your readers).

Optional Minor Characters: Papyrus, Frisk, Toriel, Asgore, Undyne, other monsters, Sandy Gier (OC), Ned Gier (OC), Maria Stolz (OC), any other characters listed in Under the Spotlight, your own OCs (should they fit).

What is CANON: As the creator (RTNightmare), the only thing that has been canonically set up is Sans and his employees roles at GI (as well as what goes on in there, Houses included) and Sans’ having (read: finding) his Soul Mate somehow. The story of Under the Spotlight could have been told in so many different ways. See below…

Options for how to use this AU: This is only some examples.

    1)      Sans could find the reader in another way (her mother does not have to be a scientist). Examples: Reader is homeless OR looking for a job and comes to GI OR there is a contest to find something and Reader partakes etc.

    2)      While Sans finding the Reader is the main difference, there are others. Example: The public wants Sans to do something and he does not want to, but the pressure is getting to him OR Sans becomes depressed and GI suffers because of it, so they have a deadline to do (insert whatever it is here) etc.

Important: Not everything is known yet. I have a lot in store for some of the characters (OCs) and their backstories that I have only barely scraped the surface of. If you are concerned about this, please ask me (RTNightmare). I will let you know if you are straying into dangerous territory.

Canon Plot Devices:

    1)      Reader’s ‘White Soul/Magic’ – If you read the character sheets below, you will understand why.

    2)      Sans’ company being at least ONE of the biggest companies – If Sans and GI’s net worth was just at a billion, this would still work. I made them a decillion for specific plot reasons.

    3)      Everything in and related to Gaster Industries – A lot of the stuff I have written about is necessary for plot reasons. Whether it be to explain something or to foreshadow is for you to find out.

    4)      All the employees who have been mentioned – All of the OCs I’ve made for this help to balance the story. An example of this that is subtle is Ben and Alphys (who work together). Ben is very chill and Alphys has a history of anxiety. Ben has a calming affect on everyone, which is why he is in this story.

    5)      Sans appearance and personality – UtS Sans is partially made from my own personal headcanons and what is canon for UtS. He was originally roughly 4 feet tall when Underground. However, after coming topside, he grew. Because of the circumstances Underground, Sans countered it by condensing his magic and his form to be powerful enough to fight even with his HP. However, I wanted Sans to be this extremely over-the-top sexy person in UtS/GI AU, so I devised this headcanon so that it would work for the story. After all, when you’re attractive, you are more popular. When you’re popular, you seem less like a person and more like a figurehead, or a deity, as it was implied in Chapter 13.

    6)      So, with all of that, I devised Reader to be the one to shatter that image of him to the people reading UtS and make him appear like anyone else – he has his flaws. In a way, this headcanon was inspired by the Undertale community since there are so many people who want to f*** the small skeleton. There are a few images I’ve seen where Sans seems untouchable. (Example: Themes where the bone zone is closed!) As one of the people who wants to f*** the blue skelly, it was my way of making fun of all of us.

    7)      This version of Sans is gorgeous! (Yum!)

Character Sheets: A helpful tool if you don’t know how to keep one of the characters IN-CHARACTER.

This will include the main characters of UtS. If you want any more to be added, please let me know. I have not included Dina since she is based off a real person and Lisa isn’t enough of a main character to put her in because she was only there for a link to Sans.

Sans: Since in UtS, Sans finds his SM quickly, he’s definitely a lot more positive. There are two types of Sanses for this GI AU. They are positive and negative. Let’s start with the latter…

    ·         Negative: I have demonstrated in some one-shots and in one of the first chapters what he was like after he met his SM the first time but lost her since. Sans without his SM is basically like most people portray him in Undertale; depressed, forlorn, longing, desperate, and frustrated.

    ·         Positive: Having his SM, Sans will be the cheeky, sassy, saucy, silly guy that we see often in UtS. He is an absolute TROLL when he wants to be, is often super obnoxious, extra observant so that he can find more ways to annoy everyone (Reader especially) and can be incredibly immature. However, when he is trying to be professional, he has the laid-back image a lot of fans use in their work. He will curse on occasion, make witty jokes or puns, can be sassy (though he keeps it in check), and just makes it fun to be around him. His trolling is mostly for people he doesn’t like, ie – the MEDIA! What is even more interesting is his dynamic with his best friend, Nate Fuller.

Nate: Speaking of which, let’s go to him next.

    ·         Despite which version of Sans you go with, Nate will only change slightly. He is based off the character Naotsugu from Log Horizon. He is a ladies’ man just like the LH character. However, he is a lot less of an ass and only uses that charming ladies’ man persona to mess with Sans or others. However, despite his teasing, he and Sans have the greatest trust in each other. Nate is genuine, and Sans can tell from his pure yellow Soul. Nate is a protective guy, easily the most perceptive of all Sans’ friends/colleagues and is the guy Sans goes to for advice when he is in a bind. Nate is literally the big brother of GI – he protects everyone.

Alphys: Besides Sans, Alphys and Mettaton are the only canon Undertale character who change at all.

    ·         The only thing I can really say is that in this timeline, Alphys learns to become a leader of sorts. She is the head of her House, Perseverance/Purple. She still has a minor stutter, but she grows as a person. She learns that it’s okay to ask for help. We don’t necessarily see this happen in UtS, but by her actions, she feels more comfortable. Even though she leads her own house and co-leads her own division of GI, she is still learning. Sans and the other admins encourage her to continue this growth and by the time UtS truly begins, we see this.

Mettaton: Okay, to be fair, he has less of change than Alphys. He’s still a bit too narcissistic and it’s painfully obvious. However, he does grow a bit.

    ·         Mettaton’s flaw will always be his view of his own self-worth. He puts up a ‘I’m perfect’ façade because he wants to be able to outshine Sans, who literally doesn’t care about his appearance. Mettaton tries super hard to impress, and even makes Sans swear not to encroach of his territory (show biz, minus comedy) and he will do the same. Sans is perfectly content with this since he doesn’t care or like the limelight much. (This promise will be shattered by unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances that will happen at roughly chapter 28-30.)

    ·         The other thing about Mettaton is he is Papyrus’ SM. Sans tolerates him for his brother’s sake and Mettaton knows Sans’ feelings about the relationship, which is why he was willing to be on his best behavior. In comparison to how most people portray MTT, in UtS, I made sure to have him tamer. He still acts like a drama queen, but he also cares about more than just himself as he takes enormous interest in the Reader. So, he grew a heart…or whatever. Basically, his ego lessened, and his selflessness grew. He still has a huge ego and he still is selfish as we will see soon enough, but he knows his place and he is aware some things are out of Sans’ control.

The Other Admins: Naomi, Ben, and Kara. I will speed through these since they are mostly supporting characters.

    ·         Naomi: Naomi has a Soul of Kindness. She has been working at GI for a long while, having joined when she was fresh out of high school. She is in her mid-twenties now. I see her as a petite girl who would wear low pigtails holding ebony (black) hair with bright green eyes. Now that I think about it, she is kind of like a fairy – like how I imagine an alternate version of Alice Cullen (Twilight Series; I’m so sorry) would be. She isn’t nearly as flexible or anything, but her positive mood is infectious. She is a sweetheart. She is both the big sis and little sis of GI; she is everyone’s friend and mentor (like a bib sis) and she pumps them up and admires them (like a lil sis).

    ·         Ben: Ben is almost completely emotionless. He is like Sans in that he is very laid-back. However, he is so chill that he won’t really bat an eye at anything. But it is positive because if he smiles, everyone feels it and smiles, too. Ben is the Soul of Patience, which makes his attitude make a lot of sense. No one has ever seen him mad before. But if he ever did, you better believe it would be horrifying. Yeah, he’s one of those people. ^^; (I see Ben has looking very generic. He’s got brown hair and eyes, is relatively tall, pale skin or not, no facial hair. But you can change that. As long as it matches his personality.)

    ·         Kara: Kara is the Soul of Integrity. She is also less of a minor character because I wanted her to be a mentor for the Reader so that basic character development could be had. I wanted her to be black because of my respect for the black community. As a white person (gdi I hate these labels and I’m so sorry if I offend anyone!), I haven’t had the hardships other people have. Sure, I’m a girl and girls have had it rough, but I have a huge respect for the people who have to work hard because people judge them. I made Kara one of these people to show part of what Undertale means (I have seen UT partially as being about acceptance). And Kara is a more prominent character because I wanted to show my respect. I don’t go into detail about what most of the OCs look like. However, I do mention Kara’s appearance in the beginning of twenty-two. She also has ebony-hair, and I imagine her being slim and just gorgeous because I’ve seen so many women who are beautiful. Some of those people have been looked down at and I just don’t get it. Kara is my representation of acceptance, beauty, and what like could be if prejudice stopped being a thing. She is the only human admin (even though she technically isn’t *coughsheisonethocough* – and I subconsciously did that to make a point) who isn’t white. But I love her character and what she represents. She is sassy.

The Giers/Stolz: Yep, it’s time for the villains.

    ·         Sandy: I have already described Sandy as the adult Princess Morbucks, if she wasn’t ultra-rich. So, she is still Daddy’s little princess even though she isn’t rolling in money. I have labeled this kind of character Princess Bitch. She is rude, fake, selfish, bigoted, egotistical, immature, a total brat, and just annoying. She is the embodiment of the person I hate the most and the most annoying kind of girl in the world, since the person I hate the most is a guy. She is the kind of girl who whines to daddy when she doesn’t get her way – a very Princess Morbucks thing to do. She thinks she is perfect when she isn’t. She is harmless, though, which probably leaves you questioning if she is the real villain. I’ll give you a hint: She really isn’t. She’s just a tool. She might be redeemable in the end of the story; I don’t know yet.

    ·         Ned: Ned Gier is a lot like Mr. Morbucks in that he would give his daughter everything if he could. However, he is not the one in command. That is how he differs from the Powerpuff Girls semi-villain. Ned was pulling the strings behind Sandy being with Sans initially. He was also doing a lot of illegal things, including abusing his employees and a lot of company-based fraud, which ruined him and his business when he went after Sans’ SM, the Reader. After losing everything, he has become someone else’s tool/puppet. It might be obvious who it is, or it might not.

    ·         Maria Stolz: Ned Gier’s ex-wife and Sandy’s mother. She separated from Ned after he started his partnership with Sans. She is a monster hater, her pride dictating her choices (hence her last name). She is sharp, sinister, egotistical, intelligent, powerful, and heartless. Her marriage to Ned was a political move to unite the Stolz business, a fashion and cosmetic business that still thrives, and Gier business. The latter having fallen apart thanks to Ned’s miscalculation, Maria holds Ned’s life in her hands. That is just the kind of woman she is. She has told Ned that Sandy is a lost cause because of the situation with Sans. Maria wants to destroy Sans completely for destroying what she deems as her property – Ned and Sandy. She thinks of people as minions and property if they are below her or enemies and allies if they are at her level. To be frank, Sans is way more powerful than her. Her company isn’t even in the billions. However, what Maria lacks in fortune she makes up for in intelligence. Whether or not she is the true villain is yet to be seen, though.

Reader: The Reader doesn’t have a set personality and they CAN be a pre-defined OC as long as the personality matches up enough. I wrote the reader with minor personality quirks and may have added my own personal feelings and personality quirks here and there. However, I will write down a few things that would work for the Reader. There are two categories for this…

Appearance:

    ·         I typically think of Reader as being 5’4 inches like me with black hair and blue eyes. However, the only part that can only be changed a little is the height. Sans is 6’2, and he tends to lean over onto the Reader’s head. If you look at this chart, you will see the difference.

    ·         Height: Given that, Reader can be anywhere from 5’3 to 5’6 and it still work comfortably. Note: These are FEET and INCHES, not meters or whatever is used in other countries. ^^;

    ·         Hair and Eyes: Eye color can be anything. Hair color, style, length is up for MINOR debate. I do think that pixie cut, or shoulder-length hair as the minimum shortness are safer bets, but I have drawn boyish hair for a meme, so it does not HAVE to be. Longer hair works easier than shorter. They do have to have hair, though, as it is described as such in UtS. (This is only if you choose to do this specific Reader.)

    ·         Ethnicity/Race/Etc: I did a meme using Sans and Reader from UtS. Each part, I had a different Reader. The ethnicity does not matter. When writing UtS, I put myself as the reader. I dye my hair black and have blue-green-gray eyes (thought I write it as just blue). The reader can be Black, Asian, Mexican, Jewish, White, Muslim, I DON’T CARE. (Very important: This AU is on Earth, in a different Timeline. For all I care, it could be a timeline where racism isn’t as much of a thing, terrorism doesn’t happen, etc. I would even prefer that.)

    ·         Body Shape: I am chubby. At 5’4, I weigh a little over 200lbs. I am trying to lose weight. The point is, Reader can be slim or chubby. She can even be really big. Sans is a monster, and monsters don’t judge based off appearance. The Soul is what matters. So, hourglass, beanpole, super-cuddly (i.e. me! XD), etc. – it all works!

Personality:

    ·         I am not sure if anyone has noticed the minor development for Reader. I have a think about confidence. I lack it because I was bullied and judged for years. Reader starts out really self-conscious until Sans becomes the catalyst to help her confidence grow. If she had been offered an admin position at the start with all the other employees not batting an eye, she would have frozen up, freaked out, and declined. However, as you will see in Chapter 25, she takes it in stride. That is what makes Sans and the Reader meld; they complement each other.

    ·         With the Reader, that is what’s most important. If you use the same silly positive personality for Sans in GI AU, the Reader must be able to compliment him. They must boost each other.

    ·         Currently, Sans boosts Reader by improving her confidence and having trust in her while also showering her the love that she never realized she needed.

    ·         Reader boosts Sans by proving to him that he is worthy of being where he is. Whether Reader knows it or not, Sans depends on the Reader is a way he can’t with anyone else. Sans has put up a mask for most of his life and Reader unknowingly rips apart the moment they re-meet at the beginning of UtS. When they bond, Reader experiences the general stuff Sans suffered through – she doesn’t see everything because he tries to spare her from most of it. Reader’s acceptance of him despite his past choices and despite the figurehead he has become makes her his guiding light, which I find incredibly ironic considering the Reader has ‘White Magic’.

Magic:

    ·         Reader’s ‘White Magic’ is canon to the GI AU and UtS. Her role in this AU is special. I have already written about this kind of magic in past stories, some of you no doubt having picked up on it. I will say that Reader’s magic is very unique and because it’s already been written out and foreshadowed, it is NOT what it seems.

    ·         Should you decide to switch out the Reader with an OC, the ‘White Magic’ is canon. However, if you don’t plan on magic being in use as much, you can ignore it. However, the OC does need to have the ‘White Soul’.  Even if they don’t/can’t use magic, their Soul alone impacts those around them. The GI Reader/Sans’ SM has this kind of Soul so that they are able to balance Sans, regardless if they can use magic or not. The use of magic in UtS was necessary for story plot but having just the Soul be ‘White’ is fine for some story plots.

This is just what I have thought of so far. I might add to this if I think of or remember anything! Making a Wikia is hard, so I did this instead! Hope it helps!

I decided to do this in the unlikely event someone wanted to create their own fan fiction or art for this AU. Since it is my AU, I wanted to help flesh out everything just in case. Hopefully, I didn't spoil any of it. Anyway, I have officially named this AU, too.

This is everything I could think of for the Gaster Industries AU. I will probably be editing it to add stuff in the future. But if you have anything you want me to add specifically in terms of Under the Spotlight, please comment below.

This looks cool and I would like to read it...But, I am guy...Well, maybe if there is an OC who can turn me into a lady would be nice. Hehehe, I wonder who can do that.

Leiru: Hmmm...
